Program Evaluations

Aligning Visions provides independent program assessment services for foundations, governmental agencies, and global and national nonprofits committed to ecosystem conservation and sustainable livelihood projects. I structure assessments to address questions that are relevant to the local stakeholders’ future decisions and actions. Participatory assessments, wherein stakeholders have a real say in designing the key questions and reflecting on project outcomes and impacts, are my preferred approach.  Once the key questions are identified with clients, I will gather data through interviews, field visits, surveys, workshops, and mindful document reviews. I use diverse methods from “appreciative inquiry” to group reflection on theories of change and results chains. Objective evaluations are critical to all of us, as conservationists and humanitarians, to ensure that our strategies and efforts have as great a conservation impact as possible, particularly given the severity of the threats affecting natural systems, biodiversity, and the local communities that depend upon them.

Some independent program assessments led by Aligning Visions include:

Co-authored the 10-year review of Conservation Trust Funds globally that was published in 2020 by the Conservation Finance Alliance.
  • Final evaluation of the Tropical Forest Conservation Act Program in Paraguay.
  • A review of the Forever Costa Rica Trust after its first three years of operation to inform donors about the accomplishments to date, to review the financial and investment policies in place, and provide recommendations for next steps.
  • Final evaluation of the Global Climate Change Resiliency Programme on the Mesoamerican Reef with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF);
  • Evaluation of Phase 1 of the Amazon Region Protected Areas Program in Brazil for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and FUNBIO.
  • Internal evaluation of freshwater climate change adaptation programs of WWF-US in four global river basins;
  • Mid-term evaluation of the Tropical Forest Conservation Program in Guatemala for USAID;
  • Final evaluation of Phase 2 of the Consolidation of the Mexican Natural Protected Area System for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Mexican Fund for the Conservation of Nature (FMCN).

Paquita Bath and Aligning Visions took a leading role on the technical delivery of two significant products for the Conservation Finance Alliance and our partners at the three Conservation Trust Fund networks.  Paquita’s intellectual rigor combined with outstanding communication and coordination skills resulted in these two reports that were of exceptional quality both in terms of technical content and writing clarity.  Paquita was a pleasure to work with and we look forward to future collaboration.  I would recommend Paquita and Aligning Visions for projects across their entire range of activities.
